We asked each other a series of 5 questions (some of them completely random!) and here are the results.
Dr Adam Dirir – Principal Dentist
- Why did you want to become a dentist?
As a young person, I had a fascination of the way the human body works and was keenly interested in biology. My biology teacher suggested since I was good with my hands (being a piano and saxophone player) I would be an ideal candidate for dental school! At 16 I went to have some work experience at a local dentist for a couple of days where I thoroughly enjoyed the work and thought it would be a good fit for my career. Whilst at university I pursued an interest in medicine and gained a scholarship to do an extra year completing a physiology degree which guided me into a career initially in maxillo-facial surgery.
2.What is your favourite part of dentistry?
The job satisfaction of seeing restorations that I have placed 15+ years ago still doing well. This is underpinned by an interest in material science of the materials that we use in the practice.
3.Who is your favourite super hero?
Joker (The villain from Batman)
4.What toothpaste do you use?
Oral-B pro expert
5.What do you do in your spare time?

Amy Safrany – Head Nurse
- What guided you to a career in dentistry?
Once upon a time I started my career in day surgery at my local Foundation Trust hospital. Here I worked in all types of surgical procedures. Oral surgery was my favourite and I used to look forward to dental lists the most. One day I was helping an Oral Surgeon and he suggested that I qualify as a dental nurse as he thought I was good at it and I had taken a keen interest to learn more.
2. What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy helping people, it is one of my passions and I believe I am a naturally caring and empathetic person. This makes my job a perfect fit for me as I get to be there for people (often when they need it the most!). A lot of people are anxious about the Dentist and I feel I can help to comfort them and put them at ease. This gives me great job satisfaction to know I am able to make a difference.
3. What is your favourite book?
My favourite book is ‘A Little Princess’ by Frances Hodgson Burnett. My favourite quote from this book is;
- 4. What is your favourite fictional character?

In my spare time I like to do yoga and pilates. I also love being outdoors camping and hiking. When I am at home, I am also a bit of a gaming nerd so can be often found playing games on my PC!
So there it is guys, a sneak peek into the life’s of your dental team! I bet you didn’t think they were that interesting!
